Southwest Studio

This studio was created for a client who wanted to bring a Southwest feel to her Colorado home, which she also plans to use as a vacation rental. Some of her major requests included extra sleeping space as well as extra storage. The main sleeping area is made private from the seating area via a room divider. In the seating area, there is plenty of space to relax and chat at the end of the day, but the day bed also provides an extra sleeping option for guests. The extra shelving around the studio provide a great place to store pictures and knick knacks, and the storage bench at the end of the bed is great for storing extra linens and blankets. The pops of color throughout the entire space provide a friendly and inviting space.

Master Bathroom Remodel

This bathroom design reflects the design intent of Frank Lloyd Wright's Falling Water. I designed this bathroom to reflect the experience of being in nature, but with a contemporary aesthetic. Cantilevered vanity, sinks, and faucet reflect upon the structure of Falling Waters, while the natural tones and textures throughout are reflective of the natural environment. This bathroom provides the user a serene spa like experience in their day to day life.

Kitchen Remodel

This kitchen design reflects the need of a millenial client who enjoys cooking, baking, and entertaining. There were multiple types of storage put in to allow for different baking and cooking storage, including storage inside the window seat. The addition of the wet bar also allows for ease of entertaining from the kitchen or the living room. Opening the space up to combine the existing kitchen and dining room allows light to flow throughout the space.

Gift of Adoption Fund Office

For this project, I was tasked with picking a nonprofit organization to remodel an existing space for and I chose the Gift of Adoption Fund. This choice was personal to me, because my sister and I were both adopted, and I really support all the work that this organization does. The Gift of Adoption Fund is a nonprofit that raises money to help families who want to adopt children but may not be able to complete the entire process themselves. This organization is constantly dealing with families, potential families, and children, and because of this I wanted to create a professional environment, but with a bit of whimsy. The finishes focus on reflecting the Gift of Adoption Fund logo colors, so that the brand is represented throughout.

The office is also created with Well Building Standards in mind, specifically focusing on nourishment, light, sound, and movement.  The cafe and collaboration area both provide places to find or keep nutritional food in the office, while the cafe allows the company to provide fresh snacks as opposed to simply installing vending machines that tend to lean towards less nutritious options. The glass walls, and inserts in the cubicles allow people to experience natural daylight even in the far corners of the space. Light comes through from all surrounding windows, and then through glass walls of the private offices and conference rooms. The overhead lights are lower in lumens so that they are more comfortable to the eye and less likely to cause glare on computer screens. Most of the office is carpeted, and the cubicles have upholstered sides to help with noise reduction and to protect privacy. In the reception area, I created a small play corner for any younger children that may be in the office. The corner has wall and ceiling panels created for sound absorption. Movement is encouraged by providing the collaboration area, soft seating areas by the windows, and the cafe. All these spaces provide and encourage a way to spend time away from your desk and still work. The executive offices have sit to stand desks, and all work spaces have adjustable ergonomic chairs. These features implemented together create an environment that assists the Gift of Adoption Fund in putting their best foot forward and allows them to continue helping as many families as possible.

National Business Furniture Executive Office Suite Remodel

For this project, I was tasked with providing a suite remodel for the CEO of National Business Furniture. For this remodel I was required not only to think of the client's day to day activities and needs, but I also had to stay within budget. Because this suite was to reflect the style preferences of the user, I decided to keep with the traditional style that he liked, while incorporating company branding through my color pallet. The Executive Office was updated to provide more small meeting spaces within the room, which was important to the CEO because he prefers to have open and relaxed meetings. The Conference Room was updated to provide more seating, as well as decluttered so that it is easier to utilize the technology on the wall or the white board. Finally, the Seating Area and History Gallery provide a space that both visitors and employees can benefit from. A visitor can look at the history of National Business Furniture via the small wall gallery or they can browse the current product catalogs that sit on the shelving. This space can provide inspiration for employees who want to get away from their desks and look at something new to take their minds off the day to day stress, while not making it a true gathering space that might disturb conference room meetings. This Executive Suite is now a multifunctional area for the company.

MATC Classroom Remodel

The classroom design project was an opportunity for students to reflect upon their experience at the MATC West Allis Campus, in the interior design program, and try to improve upon them. The remodel project is aimed towards creating a new classroom and materials library in the existing building. My main focus for this project was providing a space that both inspires and engages students. I designed the classroom with interactive elements; there are magnet and white boards around Room 349, height adjustable seating, and an operable glass dividing wall. I also wanted to encourage active learning and exploration in the materials library, Room 345-A. I did this through incorporating different light temperatures so that materials can be seen under different hues. The glass dividing wall can be closed to separate the classroom 349, from the resource room 345 and material library. This way, students not in the class can still utilize the space while another class is in session. Room 345 is truly meant to be embraced by MATC's commuter community. The resource room is a space where students out of class can work on projects, as well as store any work, but it is also equipped with whiteboards and tables that can be used for small group collaboration during a class period.
