Mississippi Grammy Museum

The lighting design created for the Mississippi Grammy Museum provides an experience for visitors that reflects on both the dynamic components of music, and the history of the Mississippi river delta. The lighting includes a light "river" on the floor to guide you through the museum and many different types of colorful lights for users to enjoy. From a dance space to the history of the Grammy Awards, there is an exhibit for everyone to enjoy.

The museum lobby is the hub of the building. The lobby is home to the ticketing booth, museum store, seating areas, and theater and exhibit entrances. It also provides walks to back of house areas. The floor lighting provides a guide to destinations within the museum as well as a marker to exits. AGI renders in the corners show the illumination of the front areas of the Grammy Museum.

In this exhibit area we have an audio room as well as a music stage. The audio room has a dimmable LED Wall Sconce (WS3) that allows for visitors to enjoy an immersive sound and video experience while in the room. But, when they come out of the space, they are greeted in the next room over by a colorful burst from the LED laser lights (WS4). This light provides a user friendly white light that highlights the music stage where museum goers can play electric instruments, similar to the video game, Garage Band.

On the way out, guests can revisit the ticketing area to enjoy the museum shop. The retail space is designed with the museum in mind, and the lighting plan includes semi recessed adjustable LED downlights that provide the opportunity to redesign the retail area for any exhibit. Over the ticketing/ cashiers counter their is a glowing pendant light and guests can easily find help in this area and are directed via both the floor lighting and the LED tape light accent under the counter. Since this is a hub for entering and exiting visitors it was important to create a bright and user friendly section.

Athleta Store

Athleta is a retailer that sells trendy sports and athleisure wear for women. Their company mission is to ignite the limitless potential of all women and girls. My design for the Athleta Store creates a lively and inviting store that allows both employees and customers the opportunity to enjoy their time in the store. By incorporating warm white light, it will help create the feel of a bright sunny day, while still highlighting the clothing and allowing customers to experience accurate colors and patterns of the clothing items.

The sales area lighting plan includes flexible track lighting, semi-recessed downlighting, glowing wall grazers, and accent lighting. The playful accent lighting highlighted in this area are the star burst pendant light; these hang over the display tables, the woven cloud pendant; these hang over the register, and the neon sign which guides you back to the fitting area.

Above are the AGI light level calculation images. This design tool allowed me to double and triple check to make sure clothing colors could be viewed accurately by the retailer and the customers. Light levels are higher in the shopping areas and lower for window displays and walkways. There is also a high light level at the point of sales to allow customers and employees ample light to properly cash handle.
